My Soapbox

Okay, I am going to get on my soapbox here. I am so sick and tired of hearing people talking about going across the border to buy their groceries or to get gas. Many of my scrappy friends go to Port Huron to buy their scrappy supplies because it is so much cheaper over there. Yeah well you go.. do you get your paycheck from the states? Does the US cover your medical fees? Do they repair our roads and pay for our children's education? Maybe we don't have the best medicare system in the world but it is free because our taxes pays for it.

Our taxes pays for the upkeep on our roads and for our schools etc etc and when you start spending your money out of the country, those things are going to start having to drop.

Whose job are you giving away the next time you cross border shop? Your neighbours? Maybe someone in your family? Maybe you think "it's only a little here and a little there", well with so many people spending "a little here and a little there" it adds up to a lot and it is causing small businesses in our own communities to close. That adds up to job losses. Job losses add up to more people on welfare, that adds up to more taxes... more taxes add up to higher prices.. so smarten the heck up and start spending your money at home.

Okay I am off my soap box now. Remember to shop locally for this coming Christmas season and keep the jobs at home.
